The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) conducted an open house discussion (OHD) on Consultation Paper on "Next Generation Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) communication networks" on 15 February to obtain valuable inputs of the concerned stakeholders. A number of stakeholders including manufacturers, telecom service providers, associations and academia etc. participated in the Open House Discussion. The stakeholders have reiterate their written submission during the OHD on the issues such as challenges with existing networks, suitable next generation network model, spectrum band and quantum of spectrum for PPDR network.

Aircel to file for Bankruptcy

As per media sources, heavily debt-laded telecom operator Aircel will soon file for Bankruptcy at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The Malaysian parent company Maxis, run by businessman Ananda Krishnan, had earlier proposed a cash infusion to support the debt-laden company but has then decided against it. The telco is having Rs 15,500 crore debt.
