Dawar will replace Thomas Reisten, who has been Vodafone India’s CFO for past four years. As per the agreement with Idea Cellular, Vodafone has the rights on deciding the CFO of the merged entity. Sources in the know add that Dawar will be moved to the CFO role of the merged entity once the merger is complete.
Vodafone Group and India’s diversified Aditya Birla Group are in the process of merging their local telecom units – Vodafone India and Idea – with equal ownership to create India's largest mobile phone company with about 400 million customers, 35% customer market share and 41% revenue market share. Once completed in mid-2018, the merged company would be stronger placed to take on the severe competitive pressures triggered by the entry of Reliance Jio.
