The plea of direct to home (DTH) operator Sun Direct challenging the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) direction to DTH operators on 1st May has now reached the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).
As per Sun TV Network Group CFO S L Narayanan, the network will invest Rs 500 to 550 crore capex in FY20. He added that this capex includes Rs 300 crore for movie rights acquisition, Rs 100 crore on movie production, Rs 35 crore on Sun Bangla, and Rs 100 crore for normal fixed asset addition.

As per a latest report by Rethink Technology Research’s Rethink TV, the direct to Home (DTH) subscribers base will fall alarmingly in coming years worldwide with more prominence in North America, Europe and Asia. The report however added that in some parts of the world DTH continues to provide an engine of growth for pay TV – but only in developing markets and only for a short while longer, notably India.
