Col Sharma is a telecom engineer and a law graduate who has been the Chief Editor of Cable Quest Magazine for the last 15 years. After graduating from National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, he completed BE (Telecom) from Military College of Telecommunication Engineering and served the Indian Army (Corp of Signals) for 23 years. During the Army Service he operated and managed all types of telecom services including Wireless, Wireline, Microwave and Satellite Based. He also gained expertise in handling large MIS establishments and data processing systems.
After having taken premature retirement from the Army in 1992, he joined the nascent cable television industry and started publishing/editing Cable Quest in 1994 to disseminate information and educate the nascent. He has played a very active role in building this industry in the country including establishment of large MSO networks, provide consultancy to many national and international broadcasters, hardware manufactures, telecom and broadband companies. Have traveled far and wide in the country conducting seminars, exhibitions and conferences for the industry and has been a speaker in national as well as international fora. He has extensively traveled abroad to China, Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan, Dubai, UK, USA and CANADA in connection with participating in trade events and studying the broadcast and Cable TV industry in the world.
At present he is a member of the Technical Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for working out standards for the Cable Television DTH and Digital Multimedia Industry and technical adviser to Cable Operator Federation of India. He is closely associated with Broadcasting Engineers Society of India as a fellow member.
