It allows traditional TV broadcasts, whether from terrestrial (DVB-T/T2), satellite (DVB-S/S2), or cable providers (DVB-C), to be brought together with video delivered over the Internet and personal multimedia content feature packed, as it comes preloaded with Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Games, Airtel Movies, etc.
In India Airtel is already running a limited three month offer for new subscribers. As per the offer, post purchase of a new connection at a price of INR 4,999/-, a viewer can watch satellite TV content including all HD channels free for three months. However, the viewer will be required to pay separately for subscription of OTT platforms. For example, if a viewer is a Netflix subscriber, then he/she will be required to pay the subscription charges which range between `560 - `800 separately to the company. Airtel is also running an annual subscription offer at `7,999. Finally, for existing consumers, who would like to upgrade, they are required to pay `3,999, post which users will have free access to satellite TV content for an year. After the free trial ends, users can opt for either of the monthly plans – `500 to watch all standard definition channels and `700 to watch all high-definition content.
For Indian Cable TV Industry DEN also launched an Android Based Hybrid STB, which MSO hassupport both cable TV and Internet-based TV. MSO has 13 million cable homes and 8.4 million active subscribers, is working on a long-term strategy to grow the broadband business. The business plan will be announced in the next quarter of FY18. DEN has broadband subscriber base of 2.15 lakh of which approximately 60 percent are active subscribers.
After rolling out broadband in select 10 cities across 4 states, the MSO plans to expand broadband offering in 10 more cities. This will help to hike viewing of hybrid content in PAN India. They are using a mixed technology of Docsis and Gpon for providing broadband service.
