Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of RIL, is rolling out a state-of-the-art pan-India digital services business within the next two months. “At Reliance Jio, we have built an entire ecosystem that will allow Indians to live the digital life to the fullest. This transformational ecosystem consists of broadband connectivity, devices and powerful applications and services which will be available to every consumer in India,” RIL CMD Mukesh Ambani said on 15 July.

The Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) welcomes the Indian Government’s move to issue eight experimental licenses in the 470-582 MHz band. Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio will offer free Wi-Fi services during the T20 World Cup across six stadiums in the country. The telco launched its Jionet network, which comprises over 650 access points, and is supported by 100 Gbps backhaul to ensure around 15 Mbps speed for over 40,000 spectators during the matches.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued the ‘Prohibition of Discriminatory Tariffs for Data Services Regulations, 2016’ on 8 February 2016. Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom venture of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on 27 December soft launched its 4G services for its employees. The launch, on the eve of the 83rd birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani, which was attended by the group’s 35,000 employees and their families at the Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai, had around 80,000 more tuned in to the event from 1,000-plus locations across the country and one in Dallas, Texas in the US.
