The Ministry has written to the DMs/DCs/ADMs of all Districts of all States/Union Territories requesting them to make necessary arrangements for uninterrupted service of cable operation. The ministry stated that it has received complaints from some cable operators that in the last few days their movement is not being permitted by the local authorities in their area of operation.
The Ministry stated that it had vide letter dated 23 March 2020 requested all State Governments / Union Territory Administrations to facilitate their operational convenience. Ministry of Home Affairs has also included the services of cable operations in the category of essential services vide their Order dated 24th March 2020
According to letter, the Government of India and the State/UT Governments are taking Necessary steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. During the country-wide lockdown, in order to ensure uninterrupted operation of basic services, the Government of India has issued various guidelines which include an uninterrupted flow of information networks including cable TV network operations.
The letter said: “The cable services operators are mandated to show the Doordarshan Channels free of Cost to all their subscribers. Since DD News is the most authentic source of government-related information, and it is therefore very essential that correct and authentic news should reach the Public in zero-time to check rumours and fake/incorrect news in these difficult times. “You are, therefore, requested to make necessary arrangements for un-interrupted Service of cable operation. In view of the national lockdown, this letter is being served through the website of this Ministry.”
