The Home Ministry has already issued an advisory to states after incidents of lynching were reported. He said that these fake news handles are responsible for recent incidents of mob violence.
The Minister was replying to Congress’s K C Venugopal’s question in Zero Hour on the recent incidents of mob violence, including attacks on Swami Agnivesh in Pakur district of Jharkhand and trolling of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.
He said: “Lynching happened because of rumours and unverified or fake news. Although law and order is a state subject, the Centre cannot remain silent on the issue.”
