Doordarshan cameraman killed in Maoist attack

On 30 October, a Doordarshan cameraman was killed by Maoists in Aranpur area of Dantewada. Two CRPF jawans were also killed. The DD crew members were deployed for the coverage of Chhattisgarh assembly elections.

Achyutananda Sahu has been with DD for long time and was covering the Naxal affected area.

Prasar Bharati said that DD News had deployed a camera team for election coverage in Chhattisgarh. The team included cameraman Achyutananda Sahu, reporter Dhiraj Kumar and light assistant Mormukt Sharma. It further stated that the team came under attack by Maoists this forenoon near Dantewada.

It added: “Prasar Bharati parivar condoles the death of Cameraman Achyutananda Sahu earlier today near Dantewada in Chhatisgarh. Our prayers with his family during this difficult moment. We stand in solidarity with the brave @DDNewsLive team deployed to cover the upcoming assembly elections in Chattisgarh. Our salute to the brave CRPF Jawans who had to lay down their lives in the line of duty earlier today.”

The attack took place just days ahead of assembly elections in the state which goes to polls in two phases – on 12 and 20 November.

Also, I&B minister Rajyavardhan Rathore expressed grief over the incident and said that the family of the deceased journalist will be taken care of by the government. 

The Minister said, “We stand in solidarity with family of the cameraman, we will take care of his family. We salute all those media persons who go for coverage in such dangerous situations. We remember their bravery.”
