To find an alternative solution to suspending internet services during unavoidable situations, the Jaipur district administration has appointed representatives of Facebook and WhatsApp as members of a committee’s technical working group.

The committee has been formed with the objective of protecting the common man's interests in the event of internet closure, and will submit its report to the divisional commissioner of Jaipur, K C Verma, on January 29. The first meeting was held on January 8 under the chairmanship of Verma.

It was suggested that instead of completely suspending internet services for a certain period of time in a particular area, an alternative system to shut down social media websites and mobile apps must be adopted. The next meeting of the technical working group will be held at mini secretariat on February 12 under chairmanship of Verma to discuss the report and its findings.

The meeting will include convenor of technical working group, Gulab Chand Jingar and deputy general manager of BSNL, police officers, representatives of Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Jio, Facebook and WhatsApp.

District election officer Joga Ram said 45 officers of PHED, who were issued showcause notices for negligence in election work, will have to update data of their subordinate officers and employees by Friday, else action will be taken against them.
