The leading OTT platform by Star India, Hotstar has left as an associate sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hotstar opted for an exit clause given in the deal which was worth Rs 42 crores per year and IPL associate sponsorships are reported to be in the range of 40-80 crore rupees.
According to a report from FICCI and EY report on ‘How a billion screens can turn India into a media and entertainment powerhouse’, .OTT or digital media will overtake filmed entertainment in India in 2019 itself in terms of revenue. However, it will not be able to defeat TV media anytime soon.
